SPECTRUM EQUIPPED FIVE WILCON BRANCHES WITH SOLAR FACILITIES.

Spectrum, the renewable energy arm of Meralco energized five solar facilities with a total capacity of 1.3 Megawatt peak across Wilcon branches in Antipolo, Rizal; General Trias, Cavite; Tayabas, Quezon; Jaro, Iloilo; and Makato, Aklan.

In total, the solar installations will have be able to generate a cumulative 1.7 million kilowatt hours of clean energy. With it, Wilcon is expected to reduce their carbon footprint by 1,222 tonnes annually, equivalent to 2.5 million trees planted over 20 years or 3.03 miles/year in vehicle travel. Of course, the solar facility will also allow Wilcon to save as much as P5.5 million annually in their electricity costs.

These projects are part of Wilcon’s initiative to power its whole store network with solar PV Systems aligned with its goal to become a more sustainable company.

We are thankful to have such an outstanding organization in enabling Wilcon to achieve our sustainability goals,” Wilcon President and Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Belo-Cincochan said.

“We admire that Wilcon had the foresight on how to contribute to easing the impact of unstable prices of fuel, low supply from generation companies, and harnessed the power of the sun through the use idle roof space. Not only does it reduce carbon footprint, but it also lessens energy costs which drives operational efficiency,” Spectrum President and CEO, Ferdinand O. Geluz said.
