Spectrum, a wholly owned subsidiary of Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has collaborated with perfume label Aficionado and Japanese food house Takoyatea for a new solar project to help the renowned brands achieve more savings through a cleaner energy source.

Through the partnership, Spectrum will install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with a collective capacity of 89.82-kilowatt peak (kWp) in four sites–Takoyatea’s commissary and Aficionado’s main office in Sampaloc, Manila, and Aficionado’s manufacturing plant and warehouse in Meycauayan, Bulacan.

The project is expected to translate to around P951,000 in annual savings and will help the two brands reduce their carbon footprint by 87.34 tonnes equivalent to planting 4,020 trees or reducing nearly 348,000 kilometers in car travel based on Meralco’s published rates for January 2023.

The new solar project is the latest in the successful partnership of Spectrum with Aficionado President and CEO and Takoyatea Owner Joel Cruz.

“We strive to be an advocate of sustainable energy. The pandemic has taught us about caring for our health and our environment hence making us more conscious of the smart use of our resources. Incorporating sustainable practices in our business operations is all part of our corporate direction. With sustainability as part of our objectives, we are looking forward to a fruitful partnership with Meralco and Spectrum,” Mr. Cruz said.

“Apart from being empowered to achieve sustainability and financial goals, our partners are also assured of good quality and reliable service. Through our end-to-end solar solutions, Aficionado and Takoyatea are certain to get the necessary support they will need from Spectrum as they continue to move forward towards becoming sustainable businesses,” Spectrum President and CEO Engr. Ferdinand O. Geluz said.

In 2022, Spectrum completed the 12.74 kWp solar project for the Takoyatea commissary in Manila, which already generated P99,000 in savings and reduced the brand’s carbon emissions by about six tonnes from June 2022 to January 2023.

Backed by Meralco’s energy expertise and proven safety track record, Spectrum offers tailor-fit solutions for industrial, commercial, and residential customers through an in-depth understanding of energy consumption behaviors and strategic partnerships with world-class technology partners
